    Ty Landrum, Founder

    Ty Landrum is an author, poet, philosopher, somatic explorer and apprentice to the body. As the founder of Black Lotus Yoga, he teaches in studios around the world with all the warmth and ease of spirit that yoga demands. With a PhD in Philosophy, Ty has a special touch for explaining the theory of yoga with color and creativity. His passion as a teacher is to share the brilliance of yoga with anyone who wants to learn.

    Shayan Landrum

    Shayan Landrum is a poet, world-schooling mother, and the quiet co-creator of Black Lotus Yoga. She has been immersed in the healing arts since 2003, when she undertook studies in traditional Chinese medicine. She practiced her craft in the integrative care unit of a US hospital, where she founded a successful program that offers yoga to heart patients. With her extensive backgrounds in acupuncture, yoga therapy, yoga nidra, shamanism and mothering, she brings a wealth of experience and insight to her teaching.

  • Giulio Cecchini, Black Lotus Yoga teacher

    Giulio Cecchini • Italy

    Giulio Cecchini lives with his wife and children in southern Italy, where he works as a neurosurgeon and serves as the clinical lead for endoscopic brain and spine surgery. He experiences his Black Lotus Yoga practice as a silent form of creative research and a steady support throughout his life. He shares his passion for the Black Lotus system by holding workshops and short retreats at hosting yoga studios, inviting students to focus on feeling and embodiment to find their flow.

  • Katherine Ross • London

    Katherine is a Psychotherapist and Black Lotus practitioner/teacher. She has found that the integration of Yoga and Psychotherapy provide a potent approach for self-exploration and is keen to support people interested in combining these modes of contemplation. Katherine practices Black Lotus as part of the Still Point Community (London Bridge) and is available to teach private sessions in London.

    Leila A. Fortier • Port St. Joe

    Leila has worked in health and wellness for over thirty years, specializing in Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, Ashtanga, and OsteoFlow Therapeutics. She is dedicated to creating customized yoga experiences and honoring traditional practices. Leila advocates intelligently designed yoga that can heal and align body, heart, and mind, believing yoga is for every body. Passionate about mentoring students and new teachers, she supports their growth through the art of teaching. A student of Ty Landrum for eight years, she is honored to share Black Lotus at her shala, Ananta Yoga, in Port St. Joe, Florida.

  • Christian Krämer • Mannheim

    Christian left a long career in the corporate world to follow his passion for yoga, which he has practiced since 2010. He has completed over 2,400 hours of training with renowned teachers such as Sri O.P. Tiwari, Paul Dallaghan, Richard Freeman, Mary Taylor, and Ty Landrum, and has taught more than 2,700 hours of Aṣṭāṅga Vinyāsa and - since 2024 - Black Lotus Yoga. Based in Mannheim, Germany, Christian offers classes and guidance for practitioners of all levels.

    Rachel Wood • Chatham

    Rachel first came to Ashtanga Yoga in 2005 with Gingi Lee in London. She found a daily practice living in Cape Town, South Africa, and completed her 500-hour certification with Paul Dallaghan and Sri O.P. Tiwari at Samahita Retreat in 2012. Rachel began studying with Ty during the pandemic and was pulled in by dynamic sequencing of Black Lotus Yoga as it was being shaped and created. She offers Black Lotus Yoga in group classes and private sessions at her shala in the Hudson Valley of NY. When she’s not on the mat, Rachel attempts to raise two young ninjas with her partner, Edward.

    Giulia Citterio • Belluno

    She has been practicing yoga since 2007 and teaching Ashtanga Yoga since 2013. In 2018 she co-founded Ashtanga Belluno, where she leads daily classes and workshops. Since meeting Ty Landrum in 2017, she has studied with him regularly and assisted at his retreats in Italy and abroad. With warmth and kindness, she supports students on a personalized, non-dogmatic path, bringing yoga into everyday life. She now teaches both Black Lotus Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga in Belluno, Italy and beyond.

    Olga Oskorbina • Barcelona

    Olga teaches Black Lotus Yoga in the heart of Barcelona after completing two one-month teacher trainings with Ty in Sintra, Portugal. Together with her partner Mitch they have been building a Black Lotus community at Jivamukti Yoga Barcelona school since summer 2024. Regular daily classes are offered in both Led and Mysore style.

    Mitchell is a recognized Black Lotus Yoga teacher offering classes at Jivamukti Yoga Barcelona, where the Black Lotus Yoga program is actively running. Rooted in the philosophy and practice of Black Lotus Yoga, Mitch guides students toward deeper embodiment, awareness, and transformation.     Liat Gabay • Haifa

    Liat is a yoga teacher and movement lover whose path began as a professional dancer (graduate of ARTEZ Dance Academy in the Netherlands) and gradually evolved into yoga. She completed her teacher training in 2014 and later specialized in yoga therapy for orthopedic issues. Her teaching is rooted in tradition yet open to evolution, with a focus on safe and healing movement. Since 2019, she has been deeply inspired by Ty Landrum, whose work continues to shape her practice. Liat teaches at her studio in Haifa, Israel, offering Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and Black Lotus classes.

  • Patricia Ascari, Black Lotus Yoga teacher

    Patricia Ascari • Geneva

    Patricia’s first foundational teacher was Simon Park, followed by Stefania Valbusa and Gian Renato Marchisio, who introduced her to traditional Ashtanga (softened by cappuccino). Her current journey is with Ty, including four years of in-depth philosophical study through Into the Depths. Patricia now teaches Black Lotus–inspired vinyasa flows in Geneva, Switzerland, at Akta Yoga, where the studio is preparing to launch a BLY “Foundations” led class by year’s end, in harmony with Ty’s teachings.

    Anna Guryeva • Saint Petersburg

    Anna’s path has been shaped by years of exploring yoga and Buddhism. She delves into human existence through somatic practices, philosophy, and psychology, while studying closely with Ty at the origins of his method. Black Lotus Yoga helped her rediscover practice not as a tool for self-improvement, but as a way of living with vitality, presence, and freedom. Anna teaches Black Lotus Yoga in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and offers workshops and retreats internationally.

    Jessica Lesjak • Melbourne

    Jessica’s background and training are in Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, and Reiki. In 2020, she began practicing Ashtanga with Ty Landrum, which inspired her to join multiple rounds of Into the Depths and eventually grow into Black Lotus Yoga. She now shares the practice at the Dharma Yoga Melbourne shala, where everyone is welcome.

  • Carroll Ann Friedmann • Charlottesville

    Carroll Ann began teaching at Ashtanga Yoga Charlottesville in 2015 in Charlottesville, Virginia, in a program running since 2006. It was the first studio where Ty began teaching, and he was among its earliest teachers. Since then, Carroll Ann has continued to study with Ty and to guide students through daily Mysore practice, as well as classes in pranayama, meditation, Sanskrit chanting, and yoga philosophy. In addition to Ashtanga, she also teaches Black Lotus Yoga, offering it as both a complement and an alternative—through Mysore-style practice, one-on-one guidance, and weekly led classes.

  • David Chávez • Salzburg

    David discovered yoga in 2007 while searching for better mental health, and after several study trips to India, he began teaching Ashtanga. His understanding of the practice deepened when he met Ty in 2015, and he has been studying with him ever since, including the privilege of witnessing the birth of Black Lotus Yoga. Known for a teaching style that is both thorough and detailed, David also brings lightheartedness, curiosity, and humor to his classes. He lives in Salzburg, Austria, where he owns Anahata Yoga Salzburg, offering students the opportunity to practice Black Lotus sequences through both Mysore and led classes.

  • Neha Duseja, Black Lotus Yoga teacher

    Neha Duseja • Dubai

    As the first Black Lotus Yoga teacher in the Middle East, Neha shares the Fundamental Sequence and First Series of Black Lotus Yoga in her classes at Samadhi Wellness and Matcha Club in Dubai. She also leads workshops and philosophy gatherings at both studios, with Mysore-style explorations coming soon.

    For Katrin, Black Lotus Yoga is pure joy and peace — a dance with the soul and a celebration in every cell of being. She loves sharing these experiences by creating a space of curiosity, discovery, open-heartedness, and awareness. Katrin currently teaches Black Lotus Yoga in workshops and private sessions. A long-time Ashtanga practitioner who has also studied with Ty, she has for several years co-led the Ashtanga Mysore morning program at Open Yoga Studio in Bern, Switzerland together with her close friend.

    Madelene teaches at YogaCentrum Lidköping in Sweden, where she shares the Black Lotus Yoga system while continuing to grow and develop in the practice herself. She offers regular classes, holds space for others to engage with the method, and hosts weekend workshops with Ty when possible.

    Franzi Schill • Bonn

    Franzi teaches in Bonn, Germany. For her, yoga is an invitation to connection — with the hidden realms of the self, with others, and with the energy of the universe. Through Black Lotus Yoga, she has found clarity, balance, and strength both on and off the mat, and she is grateful to share these gifts with anyone wishing to embark on the journey. Franzi draws inspiration from her own practice, daily walks in the forest, her teachers, the ideas of J. Krishnamurti, and the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke.

Becoming a Recognized Teacher

If you feel called to join this circle, here’s what we ask: you have completed at least three months of formal study in Black Lotus Yoga (including the one-month teacher training), a personal practice of Black Lotus for at least three years, and at least one year of teaching Black Lotus Yoga to others. When these milestones are met, let us know — we’d love to welcome you.
